Whether you live in Ottawa or anywhere else, no time is ever a good time to have plumbing problems in your home. If a problem happens it usually needs to be addressed as soon as possible. No one likes having to dash to the gas station when they need to use the bathroom. And if a problem isn't dealt with right away, the potential for more damage increases, and then so does the repair bill.
So how does a person go about finding the right plumber? It may not seem like a big decision but it can be. You don't want just anybody banging around on your pipes with a monkey wrench. You want a professional who can get the job done quickly, quietly, and hopefully cheaper than the other guy.
When finding the right plumber there are a few things you should consider. First, don't limit yourself to the first one who says yes. If you really want the best person for the job, it is better to talk to more than one. Ask friends and neighbors who they use, you can find some good ideas that way.
The final decision is up to you. You are going to want the best person for the job, and that might mean compromising on a few issues like price. If you want it done cheaply, that isn't worth much if the quality of the work is shoddy. Sometimes time can be a factor too. You want someone who will come in, do the work, and then be done with it. Unless you're having pipes replaced all over the house, most plumbing jobs should take less than an hour. That is why plumbers don't get an hourly wage.
When considering whom to hire, and during every step of the repair process, do not be afraid to ask questions. You are not wasting their time, not if they want your business, or want to keep it. A professional will readily answer your questions before the job starts, and during it as well. It's one thing to have questions, but try not to micro-manage, it can slow things down.
Make sure that finding the right plumber doesn't end up costing you your inheritance. A professional plumber carries certifications that prove they are qualified to do the work you are asking for. These certifications don't come out of cereal boxes, they denote many years of skilled and dedicated work. A professional plumber should have insurance to work in your home. Be sure to ask that question before any work begins.
And in the unlikely chance that you aren't happy with the first choice you made, don't be afraid to call someone else in. Sometimes what looks good on paper doesn't translate into the real world very well. Sometimes that smooth, assured, professional on the phone turns into a completely different plumber by the time they get to your house. And you don't want just any monkey with a monkey wrench banging around on your pipes.
We hope you will give Eric and the Ottawa team at Premier Comfort a call!
